Airblast Sprayer Calibration Training is a 4-hour hands-on sprayer calibration training involving classroom and field exercises. It will cover sprayer calibration steps, methods, and calculations with worked examples, including use of a decision support tool. This training will focus on axial airblast sprayer applications directed to citrus (and other tree and vine) canopies; no herbicide boom sprayer applications.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
3.5 of 'Other' CEUs pending approval from California Department of Pesticide Regultions (DPR).

You'll hear from farmers, extension specialists, and researchers on topics such as cover crop selection, equipment to manage cover crops, considerations for cover crop management, and building soil health.

Due to the threat of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, University of California employees have been ordered to temporarily cancel all face-to-face educational events, regardless of size.  In addition, President Trump has advised against meeting in groups of more than 10 people and avoiding restaurants.  Therefore Jhalendra, Kari and I will cancel our April 15 Tree & Vine IPM breakfast meetings.  We will monitor the situation closely and will make a decision on future meetings as the situation unfolds.

San Joaquin Valley Spray Application Short Course, Nov. 12-14 at Kearney REC Contents:

Register today to attend the San Joaquin Valley Spray Application Short Course, November 12-14, 2019 at the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center.

Join us for this intensive 3-day short course on spray application research and extension, led by CE Specialist Peter Larbi. Includes two in-classroom lecture days and one outdoor, hands-on demonstration day.

Goals/Objectives:

  • Teach participants about improving agricultural productivity while reducing the impact of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals on the environment.
  • Share knowledge of best practices for safe, economical, and environmentally sound pesticide spray application.

Register online before October 22 for the $750 Early Bird price.

Continuing Education credits from California Department of Pesticide Regulation and California Crop Advisors have been applied for and are pending approval.

Almond Rootstock Field Day

Jul 9, 2019

When: July 17, 2019, 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Where: 10061 Vineyard Avenue, Westley, CA

What: Walk through an 8th leaf orchard featuring Nonpareil on 16 rootstocks grown under "typical" West Side farming conditions: heavy, high pH, clay-loam soil irrigated with water sometimes high in chloride and boron.

We will discuss tree performance including salt tolerance, anchorage, tree size and yield. Rootstocks include: Lovell, Nemaguard, Empyrean 1, Hansen, Brights #5, BB 106, Viking, Atlas, Krymsk 86, and Rootpac R.

UCCE Stanislaus County IPM Breakfast Meetings resume March 6

Good afternoon

Our University of California Cooperative Extension Tree & Vine IPM Breakfast meetings will begin again next Wednesday, March 6.  These informal discussions focus on real-time insect and disease issues and their management.  They are held every first and third Wednesday morning from March through June from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. at the Old Mill CafĂ©, 600 9th Street in Modesto.  One hour of continuing education credit is offered at each meeting.  There is no charge – just buy your own breakfast and tip the waitress!  If you have questions or would like to sponsor the $45 fee for CE credits, please call our office at 209-525-6800.
